On this page you can see information and photos about our gliders.
We mainly fly our gliders at Whitsand Bay on top of the cliffs, at Cox Tor or Chagford. Most of us fly models made by SAS, Soar Ahead Sailplanes, http://www.angelfire.com/sports/saseppmodels/ . The three main planes we fly are not actually planes, they are flying wings which use elevons, combined aileron and elevator to fly. They can be launched off of a bungee or as we do off of updraft, this where wind comes up a slope and produces lift which keeps the gliders airborne.
The gliders we fly are either the Python, Mamba or Viper. The Python is a larger plane which is better on calm days, the Viper is similar but it has a "belly scoop" which protects the electrics. The Mamba is a smaller glider, 36inches, but also has a "belly scoop." We combat with all of our gliders, yes we actually try to hit eachother, the gliders are made out of a foam called EPP which is very bouncy.

Here is Syd sitting on a rock drinking some coffee as he is tired from all the excitment.
